FAQ

If you are ages 16-18, LCTCS policy requires you to receive authorization from a WorkReady U program before you can register for the HiSET.  Contact the Adult Education office for more information about AUTHORIZATION.  

If you are age 19 or older, you may register for the HiSET when you feel that you are prepared.  Taking an Adult Education class is recommended but not required.  You may also study on your own with materials available at the HiSET website.

Am I Required to Take an Adult Education Class?

If you would like to attend an Adult Education class, contact NWLTC at 2010 N. Market Street.  You must bring a current driver's license or state I.D. and a $20 fee is required.    Please go to www.nltcc.edu for more information. Once you complete orientation, you can begin a class.  If you are 16 or 17 years of age, you must obtain a waiver from Caddo Parish School Board's Attendance office before registering.

How Do I Enroll in a Class?

Caddo Parish Adult Education is a self-paced program.  Each student will be working from their own individual plan to improve academic areas where needed.  Teachers will assist you by offering instruction and feedback so that you can make an informed decision regarding your test readiness.

Distance Learning through an online program is available to currently enrolled students.  Distance Learning is recommended as a supplement to classroom instruction, not a substitute. Students ages 16-17 are required to attend class Monday through Friday.

Can I Take an Online Class?

The Louisiana High School Equivalency Diploma is accepted by about 97 percent of the U.S. colleges and universities.  HiSET graduates are also eligible for most federal financial aid programs, provided they meet other criteria.  At this time, high school equivalency diploma recipients are not eligible for TOPS. For more information, contact the financial aid office of the post-secondary school you will be attending.
